AMOR DE MI ALMA

TTBB, optional piano

NOTE FROM THE COMPOSER

The original version of this work was for SATB. However, after being contacted by several TTBB ensembles, I did a version for TTBB. I only recently set the work for a marvelous tenor, Grant Harper, and he and I recorded the solo version.

The text is by Garcilaso de la Vega (1501-1536), Spanish Golden Age poet. He was a vivid example of a “Renaissance” person – skilled in music, letters, arms, and in the battles of love. His poetic output is not large, but its high quality places him among the finest of the Spanish Renaissance poets. Garcilaso de la Vega was the son of a Spanish nobleman, and he was on the royal guard of Charles V.
