NOTE FROM THE COMPOSER

The text is by Garcilaso de la Vega (1501-1536), Spanish Golden Age poet. He was a vivid example of a “Renaissance” person – skilled in music, letters, arms, and in the battles of love. His poetic output is not large, but its high quality places him among the finest of the Spanish Renaissance poets. Garcilaso de la Vega was the son of a Spanish nobleman, and he was on the royal guard of Charles V.
